Partner
Joseph S. Sano is a partner in Prince Lobel Glovsky & Tye’s Litigation and Insurance and Reinsurance Practice Groups. Joe joined Prince Lobel in February 2000. Prior to joining the firm, he was a partner with the Boston office of Morrison, Mahoney & Miller, and a shareholder of Denenberg, Tuffley & Bocan in Southfield, Michigan.
Joe's practice emphasizes the effective resolution of complex civil disputes. He provides strategic advice to – and representation of – businesses in the litigation, arbitration, and resolution of specialized insurance and reinsurance coverage matters involving copyright and trademark infringement, as well as media and publishing liabilities, environmental impairments, fair claims practices, professional liability, property damage, and product liability. In addition, he represents businesses in commercial contract disputes. He has also counseled and represented clients with respect to antitrust litigation, non-competition and trade secrecy agreements, marketing arrangements, and national sponsorships.
Joe has been an advocate and counselor to business clients in numerous state and federal courts throughout the Commonwealth, and in jurisdictions throughout the country. He has extensive trial experience in insurance, reinsurance, contract, business tort, and antitrust cases in state and federal courts. In his career, he has acted as national coordinating counsel, directing a team of 18 in-house attorneys and more than a dozen outside law firms in multi-party disputes across the country.
Joe founded and is the principal contributor to the firm's first law-related blog, Consider The Risks, addressing current issues in insurance law and risk management. He is a frequent speaker regarding insurance, reinsurance and electronic discovery matters. Recent publications include Judicial Consolidation of Arbitrations: From Chaos to Predictability, 14 Journal of Reinsurance 77 (Fall 2006), and preparation of the damages section of the property insurance chapter of the NASP Certified Subrogation Professional Training Guide (2005).
Joe is also a co-founder and a director of the newly formed Massachusetts Reinsurance Bar Association (MReBA), a first-of-its kind organization focused on reinsurance law.
While attending the New England School of Law in Boston, he served as managing editor of the New England Law Review.
